Project Description

Pain Education Interprofessional Resource (PEIR) is a web-based e-learning program designed for prelicensure (undergraduate) health sciences students (2014). Designed as an interactive case study, the narrative of the program follows an authentic patient case of a surgical cancer patient and her interprofessional health care team (nursing, medicine, pharmacy, occupational therapy, and social work) to highlight pain learning objectives related to pre-operative, post-operative, and follow up treatment one year after her surgery. The program features high quality videos in combination with interactive knowledge building scaffolds, such as a dynamic patient chart that maps the case patient’s progress throughout, and an interactive pain assessment checklist in which students could complete while watching a patient-healthcare professional interaction and then compare their answers with those from an expert practitioner.
